Prayer in America has become something that it was never intended to be. Prayer has become the thing you do before meals to somehow bless the unhealthy junk food we’re stuffing our faces with. It’s become a transition in church for the worship team to get on and off stage while everyone has their eyes closed. It’s become something we dread; something no one really wants to do. And that’s a shame.
Here at Refuel, we want to change that by showing you how God actually wants us to talk to Him. The first two tools in God’s toolbox are adoration and the Bible.
–Adoration is defined as “the act of paying honor; worship; reverence; fervent and devoted love.”
–The Bible is a book of books containing the words of God. It’s how God speaks to people.
The reason we don’t adore God is because we don’t know enough about Him. You can’t adore God without the Bible, because the Bible is how you get to know God. The Bible is absolutely essential to your prayer life. The person who initiates the conversation controls the conversation. Here are three ways you can adore God this week.
  1. Praise God
  • Note all the ways they praised God in Psalm 84
    • Your presence is lovely [1]
    • You’re Lord Almighty [1,3,8,12]
    • You’re the living God [2]
    • You’re peaceful [3]
    • You’re my King [3]
    • You’re my Sun (Isaiah 60:19) & Shield (Proverbs 30:5) [11]
  • Praising God keeps us from being self-centered and negative
     2. Enjoy God
  • Happy are those who dwell in God’s house [4], those whose strength is in God [5], and those who trust God [2].
  • We can enjoy God when we can’t enjoy anything else.
  • Happiness isn’t about what’s p at school, work, or home. Happiness is about what’s up in the throne room of God.
  • We enjoy God because He enjoys us and gives us good gifts [11]
     3. Desire God
  • God is desirable
    • “My soul yearns and faints for you..”
  • Be desperate for God
    • “My heart and flesh cry out for the living God.”
  • God is better than…
    • All the work you could ever accomplish
    • All the money you could ever make.
    • All the games you could ever win
    • What do you want to be? Happy in God.
Living it out: This week, make a list of the ways you can bless God. Carve out 15 minutes to think about the “good gifts” God has given you. Pray Psalm 84 back to God.
Adore God for who He is this week and find out more of the majesty of who He is by reading His word.
