TENSION

The thought of a new decade is both exciting and nerve-wracking

  • By the end of the decade, the youngest will be 23 and the oldest will be 29
  • Spouses, families, careers
  • Lots of decisions to make

What if God isn’t as concerned about decades as much as he is in days? What if your decade will be primarily influenced by your days… your boring, “everyday” days?

Tonight: Win the Day!

TRUTH

Winning the day doesn’t come naturally.

  • Our natural tendency is to miss opportunities.
  • Numbering our days doesn’t come easy.

APPLICATION

The three “P’s” of winning the day…

  1. Perspective

Number our days…”

Literally, number your days!

  • Go to https://imrodmartin.com/my-days and find out how many days you’ve been alive. Write the number on the front of your card. Each day, keep track of the number of your days on the back of the card.

Why number our days? It reminds us…

  • How big our God is… how small we are.
  • How ageless God is… how short our lives are.
  • How holy God is… how sinful we are.
  • How good God is… how hard life can be.

2. Practice

“Apply/get…”

  • (KJV vs. ESV) It’s a verb
    • Heart does the changing
    • God’s action is teach, our action is to apply/get
  • God’s wisdom is accessible to us through the Bible
    • Our stats: 2.61, 2.62, 2.92, 3.12
    • How many days will you “win” this year by being in the Bible?

The power of 4

People who read the Bible at least 4 times per week…

  • 60% times less likely to feel spiritually stagnant
  • 59% times less likely to struggle with pornography
  • 30% times less likely to struggle with loneliness
  • 31% times less likely to struggle with forgiving others
  • 228% times more likely to share their faith with others
  • 416% times more likely to give financially to their church
  • 218% times more likely to give financially to causes other than their church.

The most important decision you will make in 2020 is what you do with this book!

3. Passion

“Heart of wisdom…”

What does it look like to “win” the day?

#1 – Learning from God (v. 12)

#2 – Closeness to God (v. 13)

#3 – Satisfied by God (v. 14)

#4 – Gladness in suffering (v. 15)

#5 – Seeing God use my life (v. 16)

LANDING

You can win the day because Jesus won eternity on the cross!
